Vijayawada: Alert police personnel on Wednesday foiled an attempt by an aggrieved person to immolate himself in front of the Tenali II-Town police station.

According to inspector R.S. Kishore Kumar, one Kandula Anand reached the police station demanding the cops resolve the dispute over his land in Tenali of Guntur district on Wednesday.

Soon after, he consumed kerosene in front of the police station and tried to set himself alight. However, alert police personnel managed to stop him in time and shift him to a hospital.

Mr Kishore Kumar quoted doctors saying that Anand was responding well to treatment and was out of danger.

He said that Anand lodged a complaint that one Tenali Abraham had occupied a few yards of his land at Itanagar of Tenali town by changing marking stones.

Acting on the complaint, the police summoned both Anand and Abraham on Tuesday and asked them to resolve the issue amicably.

On Wednesday angry Anand reached the police station and resorted to the extreme act.

The police started an investigation after registering a case.
