Telangana: Inspector injured in stone pelting

Hyderabad: Following the death of a 50-year-old man, about 1,500 people from the village of Bujilapuram gathered at the house of a woman who they believed was responsible for his demise and began preparations to cremate him there, Mothkur police said.

The body of the man, Chandramouli, was found under suspicious circumstances on Sunday. Following this, about 20 people gathered outside the house of one Ramulamma in the village with the body of Chandramouli and started blaming her for his death.

As more people joined them, they began cursing Ramulamma and started preparations to cremate Chandramouli’s body there.

Police who received infirmation went to the place and tried to disperse the crowd. At this, the locals started pelting stones at the police. Inspector V. Janakiram Reddy was hit on the right jaw with a stone, said an official from the neighbouring Ramannapet police station.

Police have booked two cases and arrested the family members involved in the stone pelting. The condition of the injured inspector is said to be stable and out of danger. A case was also booked to probe the death of Chandramouli and investigation is on to probe the same. The villagers dispersed later with the body of Chandramouli.
