Hyderabad: Troubled at the prospect of having to return to live with her mentally unstable husband, a 27-year-old woman gave poison to her two children and electrocuted them and herself on Friday at Mansoorabad in LB Nagar.

The victims were identified as Kathula Sravanthi, Sai Teja, 11, and Satvika, 6. Sravanthi had been married to K. Ramesh of Jaffargadh in Warangal for 12 years.

Police said after administering poison to her kids, Sravanti held the cables of an electric water heater with one hand and her children in the other.

Sravanti and her two children were staying with her parents Yadagiri and Lakshmi, after she separated from Ramesh six years ago.

“Sravanti’s parents went to work. When Lakshmi returned at about 12 noon, she found Sai Teja lying on the floor in the bedroom and Sravanthi on the bed, while Satvika was lying in the washroom. All three suffered burns,” said LB Nagar sub-inspector D. Nagaraju. No suicide note was found in the house.

Sravanti was not ready to live with her husband, due to his psychological issues. About a week ago, elders tried to convince her to live with Ramesh, but she agreed on the condition that he moves to the city. This was not agreeable to Ramesh who did not want to leave his mother, Mr Nagaraju said.

This was the second tragedy to hit Yadagiri and Lakshmi. About 15 days ago, the couple’s elder daughter Manjula’s daughter died had due to ill-health. “Sravanti attended the final rites of her niece and gave moral support to her elder sister Manjula,” her maternal cousin J. Sammayya said.
