Hyderabad: Villagers in Nalgonda district tonsured two women in their mid-30s, holding them responsible for the alleged suicide of a teenager in Nalgonda district. The incident which happened on Saturday came to light on Monday. Police registered a case against a group of people and started an investigation.

A week ago, a 17-year-old belonging to Rayinigundal tanda near Devarakonda died allegedly by suicide. His final rites were performed the same day, without information to the police. The reason for the suicide was not known.

After his death, his family members checked his mobile phone and found several incoming and outgoing calls from his mobile phone to the two women who were residents of the same village.

The boy’s family members identified the two women and summoned them for questioning. When that did not yield anything, the village residents held a panchayat on Saturday.

During the panchayat, the boy’s family members held the women responsible for the boy’s death. The women were asked to reveal what they had done  that forced him to take his life. The villagers of the panchayat also joined the boy’s family.

All of them together tied up the two women and got their heads tonsured in full public view. The crowd also abused and beat up the women who were later let off.

M. Nageshwar Rao, DSP Devarakonda, said a case has been registered and the investigation was in process. Seven persons involved in the incident had been identified. A probe is underway to identify others who were involved in the incident.

“ Based on the findings and the evidence, the investigation will proceed,” Nageshwar Rao said, adding that the victims and the accused belong to the same community.
