Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court to hear Ameerul Islam bail plea

The court on Monday examined the chargesheet and will decide whether to accept it or not.

Kochi: The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court will consider the bail application of Ameerul Islam, 23, the sole accused in the Jisha  rape and murder case, on Tuesday.  Ameerul applied for  bail  after the prosecution filed the chargesheet in the case on Saturday,  90 days after he was arrested.   The court on Monday examined the chargesheet and will decide whether to accept it or not.

The prosecution had sought extension of time  as under  the SC/ST Act the mandatory time period set for filing the chargesheet is 60 days. The police charged the accused under section 302 (punishment for murder), sec 376 (punishment for rape), sec 376 (A) (punishment for inserting any object into the vagina), and other sections of  IPC. According to the police,  the accused suffered from sexual disorder and murdered the victim with a sharp weapon (knife) when she resisted his advances.
