Hyderabad: Cop planning land deal held with Rs 10 lakh unaccounted cash

Hyderabad: Adilabad traffic inspector Dasari Boomaiah, who was in the race for the position of deputy superintendent of police, was caught by the Anti Corruption Bureau with allegedly unaccounted cash of Rs 10 lakh, on Thursday. Mr Boomaiah had a year to go before he retired. 

The ACB was tipped off that Mr Boomaiah was planning to acquire land at Kamsanipalli-Basheerabad in Vikarabad district with money sourced through illegal means and disproportionate to his income. He was arrested before the deal was completed. 

Mr Boomaiah had a year to go before he retired. He has now been charged with criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act and has been arrested. He was on sick leave. Around 11 am he was travelling in a private vehicle with two others when he was stopped at the Rajendranagar entrance on the Outer Ring Road.  He was carrying Rs 10 lakh in cash and the sale agreement for agricultural land of 17 acre.

The ACB was tipped off by a credible source who said that Mr Boomaiah was planning to acquire land at Kamsanipalli-Basheerabad in Vikarabad district with money sourced through illegal means and disproportionate to his income.  He was arrested before the purchase. ACB officials told this newspaper that during questioning Mr Boomaiah disowned the cash and said it belonged to Prasad and Jaipal who were accompanying him. 

The two men though said it was Mr Boomaiah’s money and they were merely to stand witness during the transaction.  “On interrogation, the inspector could not explain the source of the amount he possessed. He could not satisfactorily explain the source of the amount of Rs 15 lakh he paid as advance for purchasing the property as per the agreement found with him in the vehicle. The amount of Rs 10 lakh was found to be ill-gotten,” said an ACB inspector.

Searches were later carried out at eight places in Karimnagar and Jagitya districts of TS, at the residences of his family and friends Mr Bhoomaiah, Veldandi Narsiah, M. Anjaiaj, Dugyala Anjit Rao, B. Ravinder, Vojja Srinivas Yadav, Sri Linga Reddy, D.K. Anand and in two other places in Hyderabad.

Dasari Bhoomaiah was booked by the ACB for possessing unaccounted cash worth Rs 10 lakh has dubious record of being transferred because of his foul mouth. Dasari is facing a case filed by a woman in Manthani court, Karimnagar, who alleged that Dasari verbally abused her. According to the police, on December 14, 2014, he had verbally abused a woman.

Upset over the remarks, she filed a complaint to the superintendent of police of erstwhile Karimnagar. Since the SP didn’t respond she appealed in the JFCM court. A case was registered under Section 354, 384, 506, 504, 509 of IPC in 2015.  Dasari joined service in 1985 and was in the army police. Following posting in the northern Telangana, Dasari was part of a few anti-naxal operations and was posted in Adilabad's traffic wing in January 2018. Since then he has not been regular to work and often sought sick leave.
