KOZHIKODE: K.P. Aswathi,  the  nursing student, who had been admitted to Government Medical College, Kozhikode, with  severe injuries caused by  ragging by her seniors, said on Tuesday that she had not attempted suicide as claimed by the  college authorities. She stood by her earlier statement  that the two senior girls force-fed her with bathroom cleaning lotion in her hostel of Al Qamar College of Nursing, Kalaburagi, Karnataka on May 9.

She left the hospital for her home at  Edappal, Malappuram district, on Tuesday. The college authorities as well as the university had maintained that the girl had attempted suicide and that no ragging had taken place. Three of the senior students were remanded by the Kalaburagi police on the basis of the statements of  Aswathi.

However, the case was postponed to next week by Second Additional District and Sessions Court, Kalaburagi. One girl, Krishna Priya, was released on conditional bail, and the bail petitions of Lakshmi and Athira might be considered next week.
