Bengaluru: A woman corporator, Manjula Narayanaswamy, was allegedly assaulted and had her sari almost pulled off by women supporters of Congress MLA,  Munirathna, here Friday afternoon. The fracas is said to have broken out soon after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gave his speech at the foundation laying ceremony for the remodelling of the Storm Water Drain (SWD) at Rakshasahalli in Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency.

Ms. Manjula, who was on the dias with the Chief Minister, wanted to address the public  but was denied the opportunity. When she later descended from the dias along with other dignitaries, the MLA’s supporters allegedly pounced on her, pushing and shoving and trying to remove her saree.  The police had to reportedly intervene and restrain the attackers before taking  Ms. Manjula to a nearby school.

The Janata Dal (S)  corporator, who represents the Laggere ward, has detailed the alleged attack in a complaint to the Nandini Layout police . She claimed  Rajarajeshwarinagar MLA Munirathna’s supporters had been harassing her for a while  and were coming in the way of her carrying out  development work in Laggere. She also accused Mr. Munirathna of not following  protocol and keeping her in the loop about  public events.

There has allegedly been a running feud between the corporator’s husband,  Narayanaswamy and the MLA for some time.
