Hyderabad: Brijesh Kumar Yadav, a former sepoy in signal regiment at Secunderabad Cantonment, who was convicted by a city court in a rape and attempt to rape cases, is serving in Nagaland currently.

The city police have begun the process to take him into custody from Nagaland and lodge him in prison. After his arrest in 2018, he was remanded to judicial custody, suspended and subsequently reinstated in service.

Meanwhile, his pictures were shared with the victim in the attempt to rape case, reported in December 2017. The victim identified him, following which his DNA profiling was done. It matched the December 2017 profile.

In the subsequent identification parade in the rape case reported in July 2018, the victim, her friend whom the accused attacked and the constable who rescued the victim, identified the accused.

Meanwhile, he was reinstated and was posted in Nagaland. During the trial too, he appeared before the court and stated that he was not guilty.

The court found him guilty and since he was not present in the court while pronouncing the final verdict, it issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him. Thus, he had to be picked up from his place of posting and produced before the court again, for executing the conviction warrant and imprisonment.

Police officials said that a team would be sent to Nagaland to execute the
NBW and bring him to the city.
