Hyderabad: Girl commits suicide after insult by principal, teacher

Sanathnagar police said that they booked a case under IPC 306 against the two teachers for forcing the girl to suicide.

Hyderabad: An Intermediate second year student committed suicide allegedly after she was insulted and threatened by her college principal and teacher at Sanathnagar.

The girl, V. Varsha, 17, hanged herself inside her room on Friday. Her parents alleged that she was insulted by her teacher in front of her classmates for taking leave for a few days. They also alleged that the college principal and a teacher had allegedly threatened to expel her from the college for not paying fees.

Sanathnagar police has booked a case against the girl’s physics teacher, Prem Kumar, and college principal Uma for abetment of suicide.

Varsha, a resident of Moti Nagar, was studying second year Intermediate (MPC) at Narayana Junior College in SR Nagar. On Friday morning at around 7 am, her parents found her hanging on the ceiling in her bedroom.

Her parents alleged that she was threatened and insulted by both teachers. “Our daughter could not attend a few classes and had to skip examinations. On Thursday, when she went to college, her physics lecturer Prem Kumar yelled at her in front of her classmates for not attending the exam. She got insulted and humiliated. That’s why she ended her life,” her mother V. Alivelu said.  

They alleged that the principal also earlier harassed her daughter for not paying the fee in time. “We got a bit delayed in paying the fee. The college management wants only money. She was my only child. Now she is no more. They are responsible for her death,” said her mother.

Sanathnagar police said that they booked a case under IPC 306 against the two teachers for forcing the girl to suicide.

“We have received a complaint from her parents who alleged that she was insulted and harassed by teachers,” said Sanathnagar SI S. Krishna.
