Hyderabad: Abductor of baby girl arrested

Hyderabad: The man who stole a baby girl when she was sleeping with her family at Secunderabad railway station was arrested by the Task Force police on Friday. His intention was to sell the baby at Tirupati to a begging ring, said the police.

The accused, Sakali Raju, 30, of Gundvala in Mahbubnagar district, had abandoned the child as he found it difficult to take her away.

On October 14, two-and-a-half-year-old Swarna-latha, daughter of Dandu Suresh, went missing from the Secunderabad railway station. A complaint was lodged with the Government Railway Police, Secunderabad.

The police began analysing footage from CCTV cameras but the girl was found by the public near Bandimet. The Task Force sleuths finally found the kidnapper near the railway station and arrested him.

The Task Force police said that during questioning, it was found that Raju had left home in 2000 and was living in Tirupati, Bengaluru, Chennai and Vijayawada and came to Hyderabad in lsat month. He was doing petty work to earn a livelihood, but was addicted to alcohol and always short of money.

The police said that Raju was once caught by the Tirupati police when he was found moving under suspicious conditions, and was bound over because he was not involved in any crime.
