Pilibhit: A 48-year-old man cut the nose of his widowed sister-in-law on Monday after she spurned his advances and filed a complaint with police in Dehgala village here.

The woman, who was married to the younger brother of the accused Nathulal, had complained about his indecent behaviour to police about a month ago but the matter was taken to be a family dispute.

The accused barged into the woman's house this morning but she ran to the Gram Pradhan to complain about the incident. She returned home only on the assurance of the Pradhan that he was coming over to sort out the matter, police said.

But before the Pradhan could reach her house, Nathulal attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon, cutting her nose, police said.

ASP Vivek Kumar Vaid said that a case has been lodged and the woman sent for medical examination. A hunt has also been launched for the accused, he added.
