Bal Gangadhar Tilak's kin booked for rape, assault

The FIR was registered on a complaint by the woman who alleged she knows Mr Tilak since March 2015.

Pune: Rohit Tilak, 38, the national coordinator of Youth Congress and the great-grandson of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak has been booked by the Pune police for allegedly subjecting a 41-year-old woman to rape, unnatural sex and intimidation.

The FIR was registered on a complaint by the woman who alleged she knows Mr Tilak since March 2015 and was raped by him multiple times, at multiple places, on assurances that he loved her and intended to marry her, the police said.

Mr Tilak is a resident of Kesariwada, Pune. The FIR lodged at Vishrambag police station says Tilak raped, had unnatural sex with the woman on the pretext of marriage and when the complainant asked about marriage, he physically abused her. Despite repeated attempts, Mr Tilak’s mobile was switched off.

Sources said, Mr Tilak and the woman met in March 2015 and later Mr Tilak sent her a friend request on social media. Since then they had met each other several times.
