Hyderabad: An advocate residing at Mirchowk opened fire in the air on Saturday night over a property dispute, following which the police on Sunday arrested the advocate and his sibling.

According to the police, advocate Sahabzada Mir Masood Ali Khan, his brother and their mother got into a quarrel with complainant Aneeq ur Rehman Qureshi, who purchased land owned by the trio’s ancestors.

The police said that while Qureshi owned the land and had rented out premises constructed on it, the family was creating trouble claiming that the land was under litigation and that it could not have been sold to an outsider.

The trio allegedly got into an argument with the tenants on Saturday and damaged their vehicle, following which Qureshi reached the spot to support his tenants.

As the argument escalated, Masood Ali Khan fired his weapon into the air, which intensified the clash between the two groups. Locals called the police, who controlled the situation.

Mirchowk station house officer Anand Nadikuda said police arrested the duo and seized a non-prohibited bore rifle. Khan had obtained licence for the weapon under the sports category, he said, adding that the advocate was earlier involved in two criminal cases.
