Eight arrested in Nellore gang-rape case

TIRUPATI:  The Vedayapalem police in Nellore arrested eight persons on Sunday in connection with a gang rape case. The incident, on June 10, involved the abduction and assault of a 23-year-old woman.

Nellore City DSP Srinivasa Reddy said four members of the gang kidnapped the woman at knifepoint and took her to an isolated location on the outskirts of the city. They raped her and later informed five others about it, who too came in and raped her.

Upon spotting a police patrol vehicle, the accused escaped in their vehicles.

Responding to the complaint lodged by the victim, the police registered a case on June 11 “Thorough investigations, including the analysis of CCTV footage from various locations, aided the police in identifying and tracking down the eight accused.

Police also seized an auto-rickshaw, a knife, and two motorcycles from the perpetrators.

The arrested were K Bhanu Vishnu Vardhan (22), Yugandhar (21), A Sujan (24), K Bhanu Sai Vardhan (22), Shaik Hussan Basha (20), M Sai Satwik (21), K Ajay (20), and K Revanth (19). They hailed from within Nellore city. Another accused, Jagadeesh, was at large.
