Hyderabad: Two months after a class X girl was brutally raped by a man aged about 35, in the cantonment area of Ammuguda, the culprit is still at large though the police say they have 14 suspects.
The 15-year-old girl was injured as well, as she was beaten with a stick before being sexually assaulted. The attack occurred on December 21, 2017 at round 6.45 pm, when the girl was on her way to visit a friend living in the nearby Asha Officers Colony.
“It was already dark by then and she was walking past Ammuguda railway crossing when a stranger carrying a heavy stick waylaid her,” the victim’s parent told the cops. He then dragged her into the nearby bushes. When the girl resisted, he beat her up badly.
A local noticed her lying unconscious and alerted her family. “There is no specific clue about the accused as the girl is not cooperating with us. We suspect that he had kept tabs on her movements earlier when she passed through that route to meet her friend,” the investigating officer said.
This case is a professional challenge for us, says DCP, North Zone, B. Sumathi. “We have zeroed in on 14 suspects, including army personnel, old offenders with similar modus operandi and walkers in the area, based on their movements 15 days prior to the date of the offence. We are handling it carefully as this is a sensitive case.”
The FSL report has not come back yet from the labs and once it's back, we will proceed further accordingly, she said. A case of rape under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the unidentified accused after the girl’s father, a defence employee, lodged a complaint with the Trimulgherry police on Friday.
