Speeding car kills cab driver sitting on pavement in Hyd

Hyderabad: A 27-year-old cab driver was killed on the spot while two others suffered critical injuries in a road accident at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Chaitanyapuri, around 12.40 am on Monday.

The victim U. Chaiteshu was hit by a car that rammed into a flag-hoisting pole in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, when he was sitting on the pavement.

The driver of the car Sai Karthik, son of Choutuppal MRO, along with his six friends, was in an inebriated condition and driving at high speed towards Uppal, police sources said.

The car (TS05EU 0026) is registered in the name of Karthik’s father Harikrishna.

Srikanth and Vishal, who were in the car, are in a critical condition, police said.

“On receiving information, we rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to OGH where the doctors declared Chaiteshu dead. The other seven injured are undergoing treatment,” said B. Nagarjuna, Chaitanyapuri inspector.

Police registered a case of death due to negligence under section 304 IPC and seized the car.
