Hyderabad: A fraudster has used the dengue scare in the city to extract money from gullible people, but fortunately has managed to extract only Rs 1000 before he was caught.

Gaddam Kranthi Kumar opened an account in Axis Bank on September 12 in the name of Apollo Hospital, and sought donations for treating children afflicted with dengue.

He gave his address to the bank as Street no 3, Lane 8, Balaji Hills, Boduppal. A forged letter head of Apollo Hospital was used.

The bank in verifying the claim of Mr Kumar contacted the administration of Apollo Hospitals who said they were ignorant of any such account and they lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police station on Tuesday evening.
