Hyderabad: Rachakonda police teams have reached the villages from where the chain-snatching gang members of January 7 hailed and have secured a positive identification, sources said on Wednesday,

Sources said the personnel had gone to Bhatu and Saasi villages in Uttar Pradesh and showed the pictures of the accused to the local police and the tribal Bawariya community. The locals initially tried to misguide the special teams but after the UP police entered the scene along with translators for the nomadic tribals, they joined the teams.

A source said there were about 400 persons with the same name in the community that is spread in seven villages of UP and also in Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana.

Police said they had caught five persons with the same name but they turned out to be different from the accused.

Some police personnel reportedly fell sick during the search and were also troubled by the intense cold.

“Our teams have identified the accused’s names with the help of the locals, very soon we will get them,” Rachakonda police commissioner D.S. Chauhan said.
