Kurnool: Man booked for burning wife, kids alive

Kurnool: The police has booked a man for the burning to death of his five-month  pregnant wife along with their two children. The victims were identified as Putta Venkata Lakshmamma, 35, Pavan Kumar, 13, and Pavani, 9. The incident took place at Pandlapuram in Nandivargam police station limits early on Thursday. 

Police has arrested three members of the family of the accused, identified as autorickshaw driver P. Shiva Ramaiah.

According to Nandivargam sub-inspector Hariprasad, Ramaiah had married Venkatalakshmamma 15 years ago and the couple had two children and were expecting a third child. For a few years, Ramaiah and his parents were harassing  Venkatalakshmamma for dowry. On Wednesday night, the couple had a quarrel over the issue, and Ramaiah allegedly beat up his wife.

At about 2.30 am on Thursday, Ramaiah, his parents Laxmanna and Laxmamma and brother Rajasekar said to have  throttled the victim, Pavan and Pavani and set their bodies on fire. Ramaiah escaped and told the police that his wife had set the children on fire.

and committed suicide. Nandivargam police rushed to the spot and inspected the scene of offence. As per complaint of the Venkatalakshmamma’s parents, police  registered a  case under IPC Section 498 (a) (domestic violence), 302 (murder) read with 34 (criminal act by several persons). Police  launched a hunt for Ramaiah and took three persons into custody, SI Hariprasad said.
