Hyderabad: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Nizamabad-based Telangana University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dachepally Ravinder while allegedly accepting a bribe of 50,000 from a private college owner on Saturday.
The ACB said one Dasari Shankar, president of Sri Shirdi Sai Educational Society, Armoor, had approached the VC seeking selection of his college as an examination centre. Prof. Ravinder allegedly demanded a bribe to oblige. Shankar lodged a complaint with the ACB.
Shanker went to the VC’s residence on Saturday to pay the money. ACB officials entered the house and allegedly caught Prof. Ravinder receiving the bribe. The officials arrested and produced him before the principal special judge for ACB cases here.
Student organisations in the varsity celebrated the arrest of the VC, who has been embroiled in a battle with the university’s executive committee. Prof. Ravinder had earlier faced graft charges in the appointment of outsourcing employees.
