Bengaluru: No vote, Rahul Dravid hits the wall!

Name on the electoral roll is a must for an individual to cast his vote and it applied to Mr. Dravid too.

Bengaluru: It is unfortunate that despite being a brand ambassador for Karnataka Election Commission, former Indian Cricket captain and Brand Ambassador for Election Commission would not be in a position to exercise his franchise on Thursday for the first leg of polls in the state.

Name on the electoral roll is a must for an individual to cast his vote and it applied to Mr. Dravid too.

BBMP commissioner and District Electoral Officer Manjunath Prasad told DC that Rahul Dravid cannot be allowed to cast his vote as his name was missing on the electoral roll and it cannot be included now.

Sources in the BBMP said that every citizen has been given ample opportunity to enter his/her name by submitting form 6 which can also be downloaded online from the election commission's official website www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in http://www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in/. Electoral roll would be made available at all the BBMP ward office and the same has been announced widely through the media.

Mr. Dravid's brother submitted Form 7 to delete his name from the electoral roll after he shifted from Indiranagar to Ashwathnagar in RMV extension. Unless Form 6 is submitted, no name can be included or added in the electoral roll. However, there is some lapse on part of the BBMP officials. Since Mr. Dravid was the brand ambassador it was the duty of the officials to add his name.

However, on Tuesday BBMP officials collected signed Form 7 from Mr Dravid and it would be processed.  His name would be added to the electoral roll and he would be able to cast his vote in the next election and not for the present parliamentary polls, added sources.
