Hyderabad: Two notorious interstate burglars were arrested by the Rachakonda police on Saturday.

The duo had committed 61 offences throughout the country, including 21 under the limits of the Rachakonda commissionerate. They committed the first house burglary in Pet Basheerabad police station limits in 2012.

In the state, they had stolen 186 tolas of gold out of which 94 tolas were recovered by the police. The duo had committed burglaries in Hayathnagar and Vanasthalipuram police station limits last month.

The Rachakonda police formed three teams and using CCTV footage and crime mapping succeeded in nabbing the culprits within 40 days of their last offence. The accused were identified as Bharat Bushan Bansal, 52, from Uttar Pradesh and Mathura Prasad, 42, from Madhya Pradesh. They met while serving a term in the Gwalior jail. The police personnel nabbed the accused on Saturday at about 8 am near Bade Masjid on Old Hayathnagar Road.

Speaking about their method, Rachakonda police commissioner, Mahesh M. Bhagwat said, “They used to carry out a recce of the place on a two-wheeler. They used to dress like merchants so that no one would notice or suspect them, and would roam around the city looking for targets. If someone asked them what they were doing, they would claim that they were marble stone dealers.”

Mr Bhagwat said the duo used their own vehicle in the city. They used to zero in on a city to operate and send their two-wheeler 15 days in advance of their arrival.

They would change the two-wheeler’s registration number according to the city’s registration series. They would stay near a railway station and choose the location to commit burglary at night.

After they had selected their target, they would break the front door of the residence after ensuring that no one was at home.

They would hide the loot in the utility box their two-wheeler. They would park their vehicle at a nearby railway station and return to their native place along with the stolen goods. The bike would be later transported home.
