Constable arrested on rape charges

HYDERABAD: A constable was arrested on rape, trespass, threatening and blackmailing charges by Meerpet police here on Wednesday.

Police received a complaint from the victim against P. Venkateshwarlu, a constable of Madannapet police station stating that on November 14, around 12.30 pm came to the victim's house in Meerpet and tried to physically assault and threatened to withdraw the previous criminal cases pending against him in Saidabad police station.

The victim said three days later, he came to her house in the afternoon and raped her, M. Mahender Reddy, Meeerpet police inspector said. The victim, who was being sexually harassed for the past five years raised an alarm but the accused warned her that he would post her explicit videos on social media.

The victim finally decided to lodge a complaint with Meerpet police, who arrested the accused and registered cases under section  376, 452, 354, 342, 506 of IPC  IPC and sec 67 of IT Act and produced him before the court.

 The victim, along with her family, was living in Pusalabasthi near the accused’s house for the last five years.

Unable to bear his harassment, the victim on January 25, 2021, lodged a complaint with Saidabad.

Following the incident, the victim changed her mobile number and in May the same year shifted to Amalanagar, ECIL and later to Meerpet.
