Rs 1.16 crore contraband stash seized; four held at Tholppetty checkpost

The four hailing from Madurai were trying to smuggle the money into Kerala, said the officials.

MANANTHAVADY: Excise officials seized around Rs 1.16 crore and arrested four people at Tholppetty checkpost on Wednesday. The four hailing from Madurai were trying to smuggle the money into Kerala, said the officials.

The arrested are  S. suresh, 57, 180 H Kamarajasalai,  Munnichalai, R. Manivasakan, 58, Number 13, Anupanadi Vekkal Street, B.M. Murukesan, 53, door number 159, Kamarajasalai and A. Ravi, 62, Five D3, D3 road. They were caught from a Karnataka transport bus during checks.  The  currency notes of 2000 and 500 in cloth bags were tied to their body.  

The raid  was led by Mananthavady Janamaithri assistant excise inspector M.M. Krishnankutty and  excise officers M.B. Haridasan, P.N. Sasikumar, A.T.K. Ramachandran and P. Vijith. The accused and the money were handed over to Thirunelli police.
