Bengaluru: Drunk men attack 2 women

Bengaluru: A weekend dining out turned into a nightmare for a 29-year-old woman freelance writer and her friend as they were pushed against the wall, held by the neck and assaulted by two drunk men on Saturday night at Kormangala Social, a restobar.

Adding insult to injury, when they approached the Kormangala police station on Sunday, they were allegedly asked to get the CCTV footage of the assault and shown the door. When they approached Koramangala Social, the management refused to help, saying the incident did not take place within their premises.

On Monday, a victim’s friend took to social media and a representative of Social in Mumbai took note and apologised for the attack. The management at Koramangala Social offered to help only 24 hours after the incident and gave the CCTV Footage to the victims and police.  

The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday.

Rushali Pawar, who was pushed against the wall and thrashed by the drunk men, told Deccan Chronicle, “Four of us had gone to Koramangala Social for dinner around 9.30 pm on Saturday. When we left, two of my male friends took the stairs, while my friend Sitara Shah and I took the elevator. As the elevator already had us inside, there was no space left for anyone else. As the lift’s door was about to close, two drunk men tried to get inside. A woman at the entrance of Social asked the two men politely to step out as the lift was overloaded. The men abused her and asked her to mind her business.”

The two men went till the ground floor with the two women inside the lift. They not only abused them inside the lift but also misbehaved with them. 

“As we were getting out of the lift, Sitara asked them to budge. But one of the men slapped Sitara, while another held me by my neck and pushed me against the wall,” said Rushali.

“Seeing this, our two male friends came running, but they were beaten up too. There were no guards when the incident occurred around 12.30 am,” she said. Hearing the commotion, the bouncers from Social came down, but by then the two men had escaped. Rushali said that she was badly hurt in her right arm and was rushed to the hospital. A case under Sections 341, 323, 354, 509 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code was registered on Monday at the Koramangala police station.
