Malappuram: Tension prevailed in Puthukode and Vazhakkad areas near Kondotty after clashes  broke out between the CPM and the BJP men  during the last two days. The Vazhakkad police  booked 32 persons from both parties in three cases. None  was arrested.   The situation was brought under control with the deployment of more forces by Thursday. The  CPM Puthukode branch committee office was attacked on Tuesday night. An all- party peace meeting was  held on Tuesday after the incident. But violence continued on Wednesday.

Two vehicles and three houses of CPM workers were  vandalised allegedly by BJP workers on Wednesday. Three houses were attacked simultaneously and the  window panes and doors were damaged.   CPM worker K. Radhakrishnan and his wife Preethi were injured.  CPM district committee  alleged that the RSS was behind the bomb attacks on the CPM office.  However, the bomb squad of the police did not  find any evidence of the explosives,”  Kondotty  inspector Muhammed Haneefa said.

Meanwhile, the district secretariat of CPM asked the police to take strong action against the RSS activists. “For the last five years the Sangh Parivar organisations have been  unleashing attacks against the CPM workers in Puthukode and the police  should take strong action,” said  a statement.  A team of 60 police men has been deployed in the region to prevent the escalation of violence.
