Hyderabad: A couple and their 13-year-old son drowned in a lake in Alladurgam in Medak district on Sunday. The victims were identified as T. Subash 40, wife Anusamma, 30, and son Gyaneshwar.

Anusamma, who is also a local ward member, had quarrelled with her mother-in-law Ramamma, after which she ran out the house saying that she would commit suicide. Subash and Gyaneshwar went to stop her but she jumped into a local lake.

Subash jumped in to rescue her but Anusamma had drowned by then. Subash who did not know swimming also drowned. When his parents did not come out after a long time, Gyaneshwar jumped in and drowned.

Their daughters, aged 7 and 3, who followed them to the lake, sat on the bank and were crying. Locals who noticed the children found out upon asking them that their parents and brother had jumped into the lake. Expert swimmers were pressed into service, and they removed the three bodies from the lake.

Gyaneshwar, a Class VII student at a government residential school in Hatnur, had come home for Sankranti and was supposed to return on Sunday.
