Two Women Held with 1.4 kg Gold at Gannavaram Airport

Vijayawada: Two women were arrested by Customs officials at the Gannavaram airport for bringing 1.4 kg of gold jewellery worth Rs 80 lakh from Sharjah. AP Customs preventive commissioner Sadhu Narasimha Reddy explained during checks that Customs officials noticed two women wearing gold jewellery and after testing they officers found that the jewellery was 24-carat gold.

The ornaments were in the form of rings, bangles, and anklets. The commissioner stated that wearing foreign gold jewellery without declaring it first is against the Customs Act.

Narasimha Reddy stated that the primary Customs investigation revealed that the two women from Mangalore region of Karnataka had travelled from Goa to the United Arab Emirates and from there to Gannavaram Airport. Assistant commissioner Donepudi Madhubabu is conducting further investigation, he said.
