Hyderabad: Girl avoids marriage, kills self

Police said S. Swapna hanged herself when her family members were not at home.

Hyderabad: Unhappy with her father’s decision to fix her marriage against her will and worried that her father would land in  financial trouble, a 23-year-old committed suicide in Jeedimetla on Sunday, a day before she was was to get engaged. Police said S. Swapna hanged herself  when her family members were not at home.

According to police, she was the younger daughter of S Shankar, a tailor from NLB nagar in Shahpur. Swapna lost her mother around ten years ago and was living with her father and younger brother.

Her father fixed her marriage to a person but she did not like the alliance. She shared the same to relatives and also expressed her concern that with the marriage expenses, her father will be financially burdened.

Though they convinced her, she was worried.

Her engagement was fixed on Monday. On Sunday morning, her father went to morning walk and her brother went for newspaper distribution.

When her father returned home, he found her hanging to the ceiling.

Based on his complaint, Jeedimetla Police registered a suspicious death case and shifted the body for autopsy. Police found from her relatives that she was depressed over her marriage and did not leave any suicide note.
