Andhra Pradesh: Victim's mother sees body, dies

The town was enveloped in a pall of gloom and locals gathered at the houses of victims to console the families.

Two men were feared drowned in Vasishta river, a tributary of Godavari, in the border area between Teeparru and Kakaraparru villages of Peravali mandal in West Godavari on Wednesday.

Tirupati: The mother of a victim of Sunday's boat tragedy in the river Krishna died on Monday on seeing her body at Mangamaru road in Ongole. Sources said Ms K. Lakshmi Kantham rushed to the house of her daughter D. Leelavati after learning of the tragedy. When the body was brought to the house on Monday, she suffered a heart attack on seeing it. Most of victims were from Ongole of Prakasam district and police handed over the bodies of 15 of the dead to their families. The town was enveloped in a pall of gloom and locals gathered at the houses of victims to console the families.

Members of the Ongole Walkers Club broke into tears on seeing the bodies of the victims. “We like a family and used to meet regularly after taking a walk at Ranga Rayudu Cheruvu," one of them said. In Nellore, the victims included those from three generations from a single family: Pokuri Lalitamma, 60; her daughter-in-law Harika, 26, and grand daughter Honey, 3. The bodies were still in Vijayawada. The family belonged to Kurugonda in Ozili mandal in Nellore district and are close relatives of CPI national secretary K. Narayana.
