From the time of his marriage, Ramesh suspected Anitha of having extramarital relationships and harassed her physically and mentally. He also hid the fact that he was married to another woman at the time of their marriage. Anitha worked as a domestic help and supported the family including her children, while Ramesh was addicted to alcohol and harassed her. He continued his relationship with his first wife. One July 4, 2016, he came home inebriated and questioned the victim for visiting his sister’s house without his permission and abused her to either die or leave him. He then doused her with kerosene and set her on fire and fled. She died while undergoing treatment. Based on her dying declaration, police registered a case against Ramesh and arrested her.

After collecting the evidence, police filed a chargesheet in the court. The court, during the trial, found the evidence proved Ramesh’s role in Anitha’s death and pronounced him guilty of the offence.
