Juvenile to do one-year social service in rape case

TIRUPATI: The II Additional First Class Munsif Magistrate-cum-Principal Juvenile Justice Board has sentenced a juvenile boy in a POCSO / rape case to perform social service in the public sector for a period of one year within three years.

The boy had impregnated a minor girl under pretence of love and marriage and subsequently refused to marry her. The incident took place in Kurichedu village in Prakasam district. Police registered a case on April 21, 2017 under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.

Then SI T. Kishore Babu investigated the case and the final report was filed by present ASP K. Nageswara Rao and the then Darsi DSP V. Rambabu. The police, led by POCSO special public prosecutor K. Kalavati, produced witnesses before Judge Bhanu Sai, who oversaw the trial.

After careful consideration of the evidence, the judge found the juvenile boy in conflict with the law guilty of impregnating the minor girl under false pretences and refusing to marry her. In light of the circumstances, the judge sentenced the juvenile to perform social service in the public sector for a period of one year within three years.

Additionally, the judge instructed the District Legal Service Authority to grant ₹5 lakh as compensation to the victim.
