Thiruvananthapuram: Illegal tobacco worth Rs 30 lakh seized, two held

Thiruvananthapuram: Police arrested two people on Wednesday and recovered tobacco products worth Rs 30 lakh in the retail market, illegally stored, from their possession.

Those arrested were identified as Shajahan, 50, of ARA 83 of Aryankuzhi in Kamalewsaram ward and his friend Vinshad, 33.

The arrest was recorded by Poonthura police with the help of shadow police.

The modus operandi of the duo was to bring tobacco products worth lakhs of rupees through byroads from Tamil Nadu to avoid check post.

The duo, who were engaged in wholesale trade of biscuits and sweets brought the tobacco products under this cover. The arrest was part of the Operation Cobra initiated by City police commissioner S. Surendran.
