Hyderabad: Kacheguda Police placed Bharat, the boy who attacked the minor last week under arrest on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old intermediate student was on her way to college when Bharat alias Sonu, 19, who had been stalking her for several months intercepted and attacked her, police said.

The incident took place at Satyanagar in Barkatpura, said a police official familiar with the investigation.

The accused, who is also her neighbour, had been stalking and harassing her for several months, added the official.

Bharath reportedly ran to his house which was 15 feet away from the crime spot and escaped, but was caught eight hours later and detained. M. Ramesh, deputy commissioner of police, East Zone, said for over a year, he had been harassing the victim to accept his love.

“We constituted four special teams along with the East Zone task force and nabbed him near Kacheguda Railway Station. We have recovered the billhook, which was used for attacking the victim, from the accused’s residence,” said the official.

The accused was booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder), and 354-D of the IPC, Sec 27 of Arms Act and Sec 12 of the PoCSO Act.
