VISAKHAPATNAM: The CID from Mangalagiri arrested Indupudi Sudhakar, chairman of Smart Yojana Welfare Society and a native of Narsipatnam in Anakapalli on charges of cheating people. He was produced in Kakinada court.

The CID said the case was registered and investigated based on the complaint given by G. Ravi Kumar of East Godavari, who was allegedly cheated by the Society.

The CID said Indupudi Sudhakar, Ruttala Hari Babu, K. Siva and others started a society in the name of Smart Yojana Welfare Society and lured unemployed youth promising them of providing outsourcing jobs in both AP and Central government. They collected Rs 300 crore from 7,000 and odd unemployed people. Later they issued fake appointment letters and ID cards, paid salaries for some time. They stopped payment of wages and disappeared later.

The CID examined 50 victims before arresting the accused. A case was registered at CID, Mangalagiri.
