Prima facie, the investigators suspect that the persons involved in the offence could be experienced violators who, in the past, might have been held for similar offences in other areas, so they're trying to match the photographs recovered from the CCTV footage installed in the vicinity of the crime scene with the photographs of such offenders.

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada city police arrested eight chain snatchers of two gangs who were indulging in chain snatching. The cops seized about 504 grams of gold worth Rs 18.10 lakh and 11 bikes from them on Tuesday.

According to joint CP Ramana Kumar some of the chain snatchers are habitual offenders. Their main targets are women travelling alone. We have caught them with the help of CCTV footage, he said.

Mr Ramana said they have identified that three chain snatchers belong to Hyderabad, three from Vijayawada and two are from Krishna district. He said when compared to earlier times chain snatching cases had declined.
