Vijayawada: In a tragic turn, a 22-year-old married woman ended her life at home, unable to bear the harassment from online loan app executives. The incident occurred at Chinakakani of Mangalagiri mandal of Guntur district on Monday.

Prathyusha hailing from Krishna district wanted to raise a loan of one lakh as her husband wanted her to get as much money from her parents to enable him to go to Dubai for work.

She hesitated to ask such a huge amount from her father who worked as a security guard at a software company in Hyderabad. She applied for a one-lakh loan from an online loan app. The loan app executives asked her to deposit Rs 10,000 to get the loan sanctioned. They kept on asking her to deposit the money to sanction the required loan. She accessed another online loan app and took a loan of Rs 30,000 in a phased manner to deposit it with the main online loan app.

After some time, the executives from both the online loan apps started forcing her to clear the loan amount. The main online loan app asked her to clear the loan of Rs 90,000 even though no loan was sanctioned. It had only made her to deposit the  Rs 10,000 to sanction the one-lakh loan.

So was the case with another online loan app that sanctioned a Rs 30,000 loan and asked her to clear it immediately.

The online loan app executives asked her to clear the alleged loan amounts by Monday and reportedly threatened to make her nude photos public. This, apparently, as things went wrong at some level.

She died by suicide after taking a selfie video explaining the circumstances that led her to take the extreme step, and asked her parents and husband to excuse her for the same. She said she was ending her life fearing her family honour would be hurt.

The police booked a case and an investigation is on.

Meanwhile, the AP Women’s Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma expressed concern over the way online loan apps are resorting to fraudulent business and causing severe hardships to the people. She wrote a letter to the state DGP, seeking his intervention to block such online loan apps.
