50 convicted for drunk driving, jailed

The judge also convicted 45 motorists who were driving without a license and imprisoned them for three days.

Hyderabad: Fifty people who were caught for drunk driving have been convicted by the Rajendranagar and Kukatpally courts on Thursday. Three motorists who were caught for the second time while driving under the influence of alcohol also got their licences cancelled by the court and imprisoned for 18 days.

The Ninth Metropolitan Magistrate Court judge at Miyapur, D. Durga Prasad has directed 43 people to undergo imprisonment between two to 10 days, for drunk driving. He ordered three people who were caught for the second time to undergo imprisonment of 18 days and also issued orders cancelling the licenses of the drunk motorists.

The judge also convicted 45 motorists who were driving without a license and imprisoned them for three days, while the vehicle owners were asked to pay  Rs 500. He also penalised eight people with Rs 1,000 for speaking in mobile-phone while driving.
