Hyderabad: A woman, her mother, and her brothers brutally murdered her husband, disposed of his body at Sharada Nagar in Tappachabutra, and then reported him missing.

The deceased was identified as Kuncham Raju alias Bhonjiri Raju (28), a resident of a Jafferguda who habitually harassed his wife. His body was found in Sharada Nagar of Gudimalkapur on April 9. It bore signs of an abrasion injury to the throat.

“Kunchem Sumalatha, lodged a complaint alleging that she suspected unknown persons had killed her husband. A case was registered, and the police began an investigation,” said A.R. Srinivas, the DCP of the West Zone.

During the investigation, it was found that over ten cases had been registered against Raju at various police stations. “He habitually harassed his wife and her family. He had an alcohol addiction and other bad habits and he picked quarrels with them. Frustrated by his behaviour, they hatched a plan to get rid of him,” Mr Srinivas said.

Sumalatha, her mother Vallapu Venkatamma, and her brothers Vallapu Thirupathi and Vallapu Anji gathered at their residence on April 8. Raju came home drunk, got into an argument with them, and then went to sleep. Later that night, Thirupathi and Anji held him down while Venkatamma sprinkled chilli powder in his eyes and Sumalatha pressed down on his neck with the rod of a drill machine until he died.

“They hired an auto saying that Raju had suffered a seizure and that he needed to be taken to a hospital. On the way, they stopped at Sharada Nagar, placed the body in the open and left. Sumalatha then approached the police,” said DCP.
