Girl killed, lover injured in Amaravati

Vijayawada: A girl died and her lover was seriously injured when the couple were attacked by unknown persons on Monday night in a secluded place at Mangalagiri of Amaravati Capital Region. The incident came to light on Tuesday. Angadi Jyothy,23, and Chenchu Srinivas belonged to Tadepalli. The lovers had gone to a secluded place near the cricket stadium at Mangalagiri on Monday. Two unknown culprits attacked the couple with iron rods, Jyothy died on the spot due to severe head injuries and Srinivas was rushed to the hospital where he is getting treatment for his injuries.

A Prabhakar, Jyothy’s brother expressed suspicion about the involvement of Srinivas in the murder of his sister Jyothy and lodged a complaint with the police against Srinivas. Similarly, Srinivas too lodged a complaint with the police hence the police have started an investigation on the basis of two complaints by registering two cases.

According to the reports, the two have been lovers for the past two years. The police questioned Srinivas in the hospital to get details of the case. He said that two unknown persons carried the attack on them with iron rods. He stated that he tried to protect her from the clutches of miscreants who tried to rape Jyothy and had also screamed for help. He said that he could not identify the culprits due to the darkness. The nearby locals informed the police and rushed to the spot. But by then, the culprits had escaped from the spot.

Jyothy’s brother Prabhakar said that his sister went out at 11 am to get back her certificates and they were in touch with her till 9 pm. He said that she told them over the phone that she would return home in 10 minutes at 9 pm, but she never came back home. He alleged that Srinivas was with Jyothy all the time but when she started for home, the attack was carried out. He expressed his strong suspicion about Srinivas being involved in the attack. He alleged that Srinivas received only simple injuries hence it was clear that the target of the culprits was his sister Jyothy.

Mangalagiri rural CI Mr P. Balaji said that Jyothi who completed M. Pharmacy had come to Mangalagiri on Monday afternoon to fill the resume at an internet cafe at Ambedkar Centre. Srinivas also came to Mangalagiri to meet someone in the Audit Office. Later the duo met and went to a secluded place near cricket stadium on the outskirts of Navuluru village on a bike. The police received the information about the incident at 9 pm on Monday and immediately reached the spot. The police found that Srinivas was screaming for help while Joythy had died on the spot. The police immediately shifted Srinivas to the hospital for treatment.

CI Mr Balaji said that Jyothy’s brother Prabhakar had lodged a complaint against Srinivas alleging that he was the main culprit in the case.

So the police booked two cases based on the complaints and are conducting the inquiry to nab the culprits. He said that the police collected footage from nearby CCTV cameras and call data from the mobile phones and said that the police had formed teams to investigate the case.

Meanwhile, AP Women’s Commission chairperson Ms N. Rajakumari consoled the family members of the deceased Jyothy and directed the police to nab the culprits as early as possible.
