Brawl over a biscuit packet kills one, leaves eight injured

Tirupati: A 22-year-old was killed and eight people were injured in a brawl on Wednesday night in Konakanamitla mandal of Prakasam district, after a motorcycle rider ran over a biscuit packet.

The deceased was identified as Thalluri Vinod, a resident of Vengalampalli village, police said and added that there was no communal angle.

Konakanamitla sub-inspector Phani Bhushan told Deccan Chronicle that it all began when one T. Johnson, who was inebriated, was heading home on his motorcycle. Some biscuit packets that he was carrying in a groceries bag slipped and fell on the road. When he was retrieving the packets, Nagaraju, also from Vengalampalli, who coming from behind on another two-wheeler, ran over a biscuit packet.

"Johnson intercepted Nagaraju and confronted him. They got into an argument, leading to fisticuffs. Later, they summoned their friends and family to the spot and began attacking each other with sticks. During the fight, Johnson's brother Vinod was hit on the head and suffered blood loss. He died in a hospital,” Bhushan said.

Of the eight who were injured, one required 20 stitches on his head, two suffered fractures and the others had severe injuries.

Bhushan said that they registered cases on both groups and those involved in the fight are being identified and searches are on to apprehend the culprits.
