Gold worth Rs 28 lakh seized at Chennai airport

Customs department seized 925 grams of gold worth 28 lakh at the Chennai airport on Friday.

Globally, gold rose 0.29 per cent to USD 1,304.70 an ounce and silver 0.42 per cent to USD 16.56 an ounce in Singapore.

Chennai: The Customs department seized 925 grams of gold worth 28 lakh at the Chennai airport on Friday. On Friday morning, one Jaffar Hussain Shaik (40) was intercepted at the exit of Arrival Hall. 

His baggage check resulted in recovery of a decorative flower showpiece with a glass base, which was found to be unusually heavy. 

On dismantling the same, 925 grams of gold worth 28 lakh were recovered. Further investigations are on.
