Two butchers were apprehended on Friday by the Balapur police for the slaughter of 97 camels.
Hyderabad: Two butchers were apprehended on Friday by the Balapur police for the slaughter of 97 camels. On Thursday, four butchers were caught for the same offence. The police confiscated the camels from a congested compound with their legs tied with ropes. “The camels, which were brought from Rajasthan, were not provided proper fodder and water,” said Mr Ravinder Reddy, Vanasthalipuram ACP.
He added that the average cost of each camel was Rs 15,000, including the transportation charges from Rajasthan. After slaughtering, the meat is sold for Rs 100 per kg. The accused were identified as Anees Mahmood Qureshi, 34, a resident of Mehdipatnam, and Naushad, 34, a native of Uttar Pradesh. Despite facing same charges, the arrested persons continued with their business.
A case has been registered under the AP Prohi-bition of Cow Slaughter and Animal Prevention Act of 1977 and Animal Act of 1960. The accused were handed over for rehabilitation.
