Ragged' girls: College principal forced us to file complaint

Mangaluru: A ragging case here took a twist on Saturday with four alleged girl victims taking a U turn and claiming that they were forced to give a statement on ragging by the college principal.

A ragging complaint was filed against 23 final year pharmacy students of a private college by its principal on September 3.

It was alleged that nine first year students, including four girls, were ragged between August 27 and September 2.

Two boys were made to dance after removing their shirts, a girl was forced for a selfie and another was asked to be a friend over the phone, the complaint stated.

The police had arrested one. On Saturday morning, Campus Front of India activists gheraoed Mangaluru police station, alleging that the police were victimising a student.

The police chased away the activists and two protesters got admitted to a hospital, claiming that they were hit by the police.

Three police officers too got admitted to the hospital. In the evening, the four girls submitted a representation to the DCP asking the police to withdraw their complaints and statements.

The girls also said that the principal had forced them to file the complaint, police sources said.
