Hyderabad: Rs 3.48 crore gold concealed in 4 iron boxes seized

The iron boxes were brought by a passenger who landed at the Shamshabad airport from Dubai.

Hyderabad: The Air Intelligence Unit personnel sleuths at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport seized about 9.21 kg of gold  in the form of V-shaped bars that were concealed in four iron boxes in place of the heating coil.

The iron boxes were brought by a passenger who landed at the Shamshabad airport from Dubai.

According to security personnel at the airport, they received a tip-off that the gold was being smuggled into the city. They inspected two bags which were part of the checked-in luggage and seized four gold bars worth Rs 3.46 crore from a flyer.

The V-shaped gold bars weighing 9.21 kg were concealed in four iron boxes in place of heating coils of  iron boxes.

Reportedly the passenger was acting as a courier and was directed to hand over the consignment to the some people in Hyderabad who would contact him as soon as he landed.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials at airport  seized  the illegal gold.
