HYDERABAD: Hyderabad traffic police said they had booked over 2.7 lakh motorists for jumping the stop line at junctions in the city this year. They had booked 51,533 cases for blocking free left, 49,038 for obstructive parking and 33,206 motorists had been booked for other violations.

Additional police commissioner, traffic, G. Sudheer Babu said pedestrian safety was of paramount concern alongside traffic regulation, enforcement, and various engineering interventions to ensure the reduction of fatalities of pedestrians.

He said the Hyderabad traffic police had proposed the setting up of 43 pelican signals under the “Safe City Project” at hospitals, colleges and schools, and commercial public places, of which 31 had been installed and were functional.

Traffic police have also identified the junctions where zebra crossings stop lines are to be marked to stop the vehicles before the stop line and to facilitate pedestrians to cross the roads, Sudheer Babu added.
