Chennai: The Mahakavi Bharathi Nagar police have launched a search for a 45-year-old man for allegedly molesting a mentally retarded minor girl in Vysarpadi on Friday.
The accused, Shahin Shah ( 45) an employee of an ice manufacturing unit in Vysarpadi, has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. According to the police, the victim's father, a handicapped man who sells candy in suburban trains lodged a complaint with the M.K.B.Nagar police on Monday.
On Friday afternoon, the family left for work when the accused noticed the 16-year-old girl playing near her house and asked her to go with him inside the house. It is alleged that he forcibly took her inside the house and stuffing her mouth with a cloth, molested her.
Police said the accused also threatened the girl he would kill her father if she opened her mouth. However, on Sunday the mother had noticed that her child seemed exhausted and fragile. She also noticed some bite marks and bruises on her body but did not relate it to sexual harassment. When asked, the child narrated the horror to her mother. She confronted the accused before lodging a complaint.
The accused and his family members also threatened the family not to file a police complaint. However, the locals secured the family and handed them over to the police, while the accused alone absconded. The M.K.B.Nagar police registered a case and the accused have been charged with assault, physical contact under IPC. He has also been booked under the POCSO Act. Further investigations are on to nab Shahin Shah who has gone missing.
