Victim felt someone pulling her back as three burqa -clad women surrounded her.

Chennai: Three burqa-clad women were caught red-handed while stealing a gold chain from another woman on an MTC bus in Chromepet on Thursday night.

The accused were identified as  Priya ( 25), Shankammal(28) and Abhurami(25) all hailing from Nagercoil, police said. The victim Sasikala( 37) of Nemilichery in Chromepet on Thursday night boarded an MTC bus route number 66 heading towards Poonamallee. Police said the bus was crowded. The three burqa women allegedly surrounded Sasikala, when she felt someone pulling her back. Though the accused managed to cut the chain, the victim came to know about it and raised the alarm. The incident happened when the bus was travelling near the Shankar Nagar police station.

They were handed over to the police. Shankar Nagar police registered a case and arrested the three women and recovered a three sovereign chain from them. Further investigations are underway.
