Nursing college ragging and harassment case: Students want principal ousted

Complain that no action was taken against ragging.

GUNTUR: Nursing students of government nursing college staged a protest demanding suspension of the college principal at Guntur on Saturday. Nursing students led by SFI leaders alleged that the principal failed to control ragging and harassment cases and this has led to an increase in ragging cases. Further the students met urban SP Ch. Vijaya Rao and lodged complaints about the harassment and ragging in the college. Later, GGH officials spoke to the principal Ms Sarojini Devi and assured to take action against.

The protesting students alleged that they had lodged a complaint about the ragging of Rajeswari and the sexual harassment of Dora Babu to Ms Sarojini Devi. But, but she did not take any action. They said that besides harassment the contractor was supplying poor quality food which is damaging their health and their studies. The protesting students conducted a rally, met the urban SP and lodged a complaint, who then directed police officials to conduct an inquiry. Later, GGH superintendent Dr D.S. Raju Naidu called his students and conducted talks. The students demanded suspension of the principal and suspension of two students from the college. Dr Naidu said that he cannot issue suspension orders on the spot. Hence, he will fire the principal and shift the students in a week. The students stopped their protest after getting his assurance.

Meanwhile SFI leader Bhagvan Das said that they got information about bringing back of the principal after sometime and hence sent her on leave. He said that they are going to take the issue to the notice of higher officials of medical education department and the government seeking the protection of students.
